WalMart Launches $200 Linux PC
on October 31, 2007
Beginning November 1, WalMart stores will be offering the Everex Green gPC TC2502, a Linux PC which retails for $200.
The PC runs a modified version of Ubuntu 7.10 called "gOS," and includes the Mozilla Firefox browser which serves as the user's primary portal. Unlike most other PCs, the system does not come bundled with desktop applications, but relies on a a bevy of web-apps to provide for the user's needs.
Google is heavily represented, with Google Docs, Gmail, Google Maps, and YouTube, as defaults. Desktop apps including OpenOffice, The GIMP, and Skype are also in the fold, though OpenOffice is not among the systems "docked" programs.
