OpenMoko Unleashes Freerunner on the Mobile Market
on June 26, 2008
OpenMoko — the project behind the Neo line of Open Source mobile phones — has released its latest creation into the wild. The Neo Freerunner, successor to the Neo 1973, brings a host of new features to the hackable handset.
Among the new additions are the 500MHz Samsung S3C2442, a system-on-chip processor, WiFi, improved graphics, 2 x 3D accelerometers, improved Smedia 3662-based 3D graphics, Bluetooth 2.0, and many more. The phone, which is set to retail at $400, runs an OpenMoko-developed Linux stack which users are free to tweak to meet their own personal needs. Retailers in Germany, France, and India should begin offering the phone in the near future, while eager users in other areas can pick one up online in the OpenMoko store.
