The GPhone Is Coming
on October 30, 2007
Google is within weeks of unveiling the much-anticipated GPhone, according to reports in The Wall Street Journal. The final hurdle for the company is convincing carriers to accept the open-format device.
In contrast to most existing platforms, the GPhone is to be built upon completely open architecture, with the main features (maps, mail, and search) provided by Google. Unlike other phones, third-party developers will have access to all the device's code, allowing for easy development of outside applications.
Early reports indicate that the carrier will be TMobile, with LG or HTC providing the system hardware.
