Everex Opens Up to Newmarket
Ultra-low-cost Linux laptop maker Everex — best known for the Cloudbook, a competitor to the popular EeePC from Asus — has attracted itself attention, and a buyout, from an emerging player in emerging markets.
The aptly-named Newmarket, little known in the Western world but a powerhouse in developing nations, has been looking for an opportunity to pair its infrastructure and integration services with an ultra-mobile manufacturer, and Everex is just the ticket. Newmarket plans to use Everex's recently-announced WiMax-capable Cloudbook Max to bring the ultra-portable market to Latin America and China, among others. The deal is expected to wrap up at the beginning of September, though the parties are keeping tight-lipped on whether the company was as low-cost as their laptops.
