Dell Goes Ubuntu, Again
on November 15, 2007
Reports are starting to surface that Dell, which already offers Ubuntu pre-installed on it's desktop machines, will soon be certifying Ubuntu's server package for pre-installation on Dell servers.
Dell was previously known mostly for it's Windows server options, but has been increasingly active in providing machines pre-installed with Linux distributions. Deals have already surfaced to provide Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and recently Sun Microsystems' Solaris and OpenSolaris packages. For now, Dell won't comment on the reports, and Canonical — the corporate arm of Ubuntu — is insisting they must "defer to Dell."
